The Jewish Book Arts Collective is a group of artists and craftspeople who collaboratively steward a letterpress printing studio and education space at the Centro Primo Levi, in the Center for Jewish History in downtown Manhattan. We share a commitment to printing in diasporic Jewish languages such as Yiddish and Ladino and keeping the traditional crafts of printing and bookmaking alive and vibrant.
Our studio houses a Vandercook SP-15 cylinder press, a Kelsey Excelsior 8×10 tabletop platen press, a Jaques board shear, and over a hundred cases of wood and metal type. We are currently in the process of restoring our press and cleaning/cataloguing our type collection: we can always use extra help with this, so please reach out if you’d like to volunteer!
